BHP Billiton not likely to close two smelters in South Africa soon

London, Mar 10 – An official of electricity and coal said on Monday, BHP Billiton's two smelters in South Africa are not likely to close soon due to electricity shortage. Bronwyn Wilkinson, the spokeswoman said, the company is now negotiating about close or partly close smelters with Eskom. Currently, BHP Billiton's Hillview smelter and Bayview smelter's electricity supply is 90% of normal capacity.
