Ord River Resources and China Nonferrous Metal Industry's Foreign Engineering and Construction (NFC) have reached agreement over a scope study of the large bauxite-alumina project in southern Laos, which will be carried out by NFC. Sino Australian Resources, a joint venture in Laos that 51-percent owned by China Nonferrous Metal Industry and 49-percent owned by Australia's Ord River Resources, is projecting to apply for an alumina refinery license in Laos, said Ord River last week. Bauxite for the project will be from Bolaven Plateau in southern Laos, which has been explored by Ord River Resources. According to data from Ord River Resources, this area may be among the world’s largest bauxite deposit of 2-2.5 billion metric tons, enabling production of 5-7 million metric tons of alumina a year. Sino Australian Resources is also expecting to extend tenement at Blaven Plateau. COPYRIGHT All rights reserved.
