Mining giant, BHP Billiton is set to bail out on its alumina joint venture with Alcoa in Suriname by 2010, reports Dow Jones News Wires. According to a BHP spokesman, the decision was unrelated to current market turbulence. “We confirm we will be exiting Suriname in 2010,” the spokesman said. Earlier this month, the miner and the Suriname government halted talks with regards to the development of a new bauxite mine. According to media reports, the Suriname government labelled BHP’s conditions unacceptable.
