FREIGHTING radioactive copper concentrate through the Territory will not be a public health risk, a mining corporation has told a public meeting in Darwin. BHP Billiton said 1.6 million tonnes of concentrate a year would be sent by rail from the expanded Olympic Dam mine in South Australia to Darwin for export. The company's Richard Yeeles said the uranium in the copper concentrate was about 2000 parts per million, compared with 990,000 parts per million for uranium oxide. BHP Billiton held another public meeting in Alice Springs last night. source:www.ntnews.com.au
