BHP’s Escondida Agrees to New Chile Royalty Scheme, Diario Says

Bloomberg Jan 11---BHP Billiton Ltd.’s Escondida copper mine will sign on to a new voluntary mining tax program devised by the Chilean government to help finance earthquake reconstruction, Diario Financiero reported.

Escondida is the first mining company to agree to the new tax scheme, the Santiago-based financial daily reported, citing people familiar with the matter that it didn’t name.
