Premier Anna Bligh says Queensland industries and households would need some exemptions from a carbon tax.

The Federal Government wants to introduce a fixed carbon price from the middle of next year.

Ms Bligh says the last time the Commonwealth planned an emissions scheme, there were some protections for high emitters such as the aluminium and coal industries.

"The previous scheme also had a lot of compensation payments for households and consumers and we'll want to see some protections along those lines as well," she said.

"We want to see the scheme at least as protective of Queensland's interests as the previous one and I think it would be good if there were improvements in it."
