Alcan said that its aerospace division is pursuing the development of a new range of products as part of its commitment to innovation in the sector.
The three main product areas are aluminum- lithium, assembly technologies and recycling, the company noted.
"Alcan's objective is to continue supporting Alcan Aerospace customers with our wide range of innovative solutions," said Jean-Philippe Cael, president, Alcan Aerospace,Transportation and Industry.
The company has already created six aluminum-lithium alloys, four of which are already on aircraft in service. Aluminumlithium alloys have been developed primarily to reduce the weight of aerospace structures.
Alcan is also developing expertise in unique assembly technologies, specifically in Friction Stir Welding, or FSW. FSW is a solid-state joining technique which helps conserve the metal's mechanical properties as the metal is not melted during the joining and assembly process.
