The Department of Environment and Resource Management says a report by Australia's largest aluminium smelter is not up to scratch. Boyne Smelters Limited, south of Gladstone in central Queensland, gave the report to the State Government at the end of May. The department's Andrew Buckley says it does not meet the requirements of the environmental notice that was given to the company in April last year. The notice was issued after a fire at the site in 2007 and environmental authorities were concerned emissions figures provided by the smelter were too low. Mr Buckley says more information is needed on air pollution control and air quality data. It is due by the end of September. Mr Buckley says it is one of the most extensive air emission investigations from a Queensland facility. It has cost the company more than $4 million.
