Base metals prices fall on weak global cues

New Delhi, Sep 2 Whoelsale prices of select base metals, such as copper and nickel fell up to Rs 5 per kg in the national capital today on emergence of selling by stockists, triggered by weakening trend at the London Metal Exchange on renewed concerns over economic recovery. Trading sentiments turned bearish as copper fell to the lowest in more than a week in Asia on speculations that slower bank lending in China may trim demand for base metals and other commodities. At the LME, copper for three-month delivery fell to 6,045 dollar a metric ton, the lowest since August 21, while nickel dropped 3.2 per cent to 17,663 dollar a tonne. In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were down by Rs 5 each to Rs 305, Rs 326 and Rs 285 per kg. Nickel (4x4) and Tin ingot followed suit and traded lower by the same margin at Rs 853-963 and Rs 765 per kg. In line with a general weakening trend, zing ingot, lead ingot and lead imported were traded lower by rupee one each at Rs 103, Rs 100 and Rs 104 per kg.
