The Tomago Aluminium smelter says a $28 million upgrade of its facilities will ensure jobs are not lost under an emissions trading scheme. The smelter has New South Wales Government approval to boost production by 8.5 per cent. It says that will help it combat some extra costs associated with new climate change measures. The upgrade will not create extra jobs, but will secure the future of existing workers. A company spokesman says there will be no additional environmental impacts, with the upgrade making the smelter more efficient.
