India's aluminium output rose 19.7% on the year to 460,165 metric tons in the first five months of the current fiscal year that began in April, a statement from Ministry of Mines and Minerals said Wednesday.
In the April-August period, National Aluminium Co. (532234.BY), or Nalco, is estimated to have produced 150,586 tons, up 1.9% from the corresponding period of last year.
The statement didn't provide any reasons for the rise in output.
Hindalco Industries Ltd.'s (500440.BY) output in the five-month period rose 1.15% on year to 180,513 tons, while production from Bharat Aluminium Co., or Balco, was estimated at 112,995 tons, almost three times as much as its output in the year earlier period.
The government owns a 49% stake in Balco, which is majority-owned by Sterlite Industries Ltd. (500900.BY), a unit of Vedanta Resources PLC (VED.LN).
The remaining quantity of India's aluminium output was produced by smaller companies.
