Vedanta Resources PLC (VED.LN) is pre-commissioning its Lanjigarh alumina refinery in India with first alumina to be dispatched this week, the company said Thursday. The refinery is designed to produce 1.4 million metric tons of calcined alumina annually through two streams, each producing 0.7 million tons. The site also includes a captive power plant. Bauxite for the mine is being outsourced while Vedanta awaits the outcome of a hearing by the Supreme Court in August, scheduled to discuss the environmental clearances for developing the Lanjigarh bauxite deposits. The company said it is "hopeful of a positive resolution in the matter."
