NEW DELHI, Feb 19 (Reuters) - India will impose safeguard duties against Chinese aluminium imports to shield its domestic industry, a top government official said on Thursday. "We want imports but we don't want such imports which will kill our domestic industry," Trade Secretary Gopal K. Pillai said on the sidelines of a business conference. "We have already investigated. Safeguard duty will be imposed," he added. Safeguard duties will come into effect within two weeks, he said. India earlier banned imports of several types of toys from China for six months "in the public interest".
