India levies safeguard duties on Chinese aluminium

NEW DELHI, March 24 (Reuters) - India has imposed safeguard duties on certain aluminium imports from China as imports had risen to such an extent that domestic industry was threatened, the government said in a statement on Tuesday. The government said it will impose a 21 percent safeguard duty on import of aluminium flat rolled products and a 35 percent duty on aluminium foil. The duties will be levied up to October 8, 2009, it said Last month, trade secretary G.K. Pillai had said such a levy would be imposed. (Reporting by Manoj Kumar; Editing by John Mair)
