India's NALCO adds 120MW capacity to power plant

MUMBAI, June 21 - India's state-run National Aluminium Co Ltd has added 120 megawatts capacity at its captive power plant under its ongoing second phase of expansion, the company said in a statement on Sunday. The total capacity of the power plant, located in Angul in Orissa state in east India, now stands at 1,080 megawatts, it said. NALCO's power plant is the lifeline of its aluminium smelter plant located close by, where expansion is also underway. The statement added that a third phase of expansion planned for the bauxite mines, alumina refinery and smelter plant would be done at a cost of 60 billion rupees which would take the company's aluminium capacity to 580,000 tonnes from 345,000 tonnes a year. It did not give a timeframe for the expansion.
