Nalco's four projects get enviroment clerance

In a boost to its environment-friendly drive, National Aluminium Company's (Nalco) four environment projects under Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) have been cleared by the Ministry of Forest and Environment. Nalco will make a total investment of Rs 11 crore in implementing the four projects cleared by the Union ministry, company sources said. The Kyoto Protocol encouraged industries to earn 'carbon cerdit' through measures taken to reduce green house gas (GHG) emmission. The aluminium major had taken up four CDM projects in its smelter, CPP and refinery units where better technology would be used to further reduction of GHG, the sources said. "Acceptance of environment norms is one of the requirements for registration of CDM projects," they said adding that Nalco had taken steps for engagement of designed operational entity which would validate the CDM projects.
