NALCO contributes INR 6.51 crore under CSR work in Koraput

Economic Times reported that the blue chip Navaratna PSU National Aluminium Company has contributed INR 6.51 crore for development work in Koraput district where the company’s alumina refinery and bauxite mining facility is located.
A company spokesman said that as part of Corporate Social Responsibility the company has contributed INR 1.51 crore as mobilization advance for 2008-09 towards the development of Koraput district.
The official said that the amount will be spent to start 94 development projects covering the entire district. These projects have been chosen in the Rehabilitation & Periphery Development Advisory Committee meeting held in January 2009. RPDAC is an apex body for identifying and implementing development projects, which is chaired by revenue divisional commissioner, southern division. The collector, sub-collector, Koraput MP, local MLAs and other top officials are the members of RPDAC, besides the Nalco chairman and MD.
He said that the infrastructure projects, which are spread over 94 villages, are mainly for construction of roads, culverts, additional classrooms at various schools including additional hostel rooms for inmates, especially in tribal schools.
Nalco has also been extending support for various socio cultural activities in Koraput dist. Recently, the company donated PKR 10 lakh to district authorities for organizing Parab 2008 a major cultural event of Koraput district. The company has allocated in excess of PKR 35.24 crore in the last 5 years for various development projects in Koraput district.
