NALCO suffers no production loss despite fire

ANGUL (Orissa): Aluminium major NALCO on Friday said its overall production had not been affected by the fire broke out at its smelter last night, an official release said.


Stating that one of the four ICMs (Ingot Casting Machines) at Cast House - B, caught fire while maintenance and cleaning operations was on, the company said the repair work was under progress and the ICM would be restored shortly.


To restore the ICM, heat input was required, it said while explaining that the fire originated at the smelter.


Due to gas pipe leakage, it suddenly caught fire at about 9.50 pm last night. Although the fire could be doused within an half an hour, a part of the overhead power cables were damaged, it said. Investigation into the incident was on. - PTI
