Novelis Inc. sold its printed confectionery foil packaging business at Bridgnorth, UK, to Discovery Foils for an undisclosed amount.
Some 105 employees will transfer to Discovery Foils and Atlanta-based Novelis will provide aluminum foil to the operation under a supply agreement.
The business produces multi-colored printed foil used as packaging for confectionery products. The operation is associated with Novelis’ Bridgnorth foil rolling and laminating operations, which will shut down at the end of April and be consolidated into its other European operations.
The move will cut 200 jobs, but Novelis said it also improve the competitiveness of its European foil and packaging production systems in response to overcapacity and increased competition from manufacturers in low-cost countries.
Novelis is a unit of Hindalco Industries Ltd. that produces aluminum rolled products and recycles aluminum cans.
