SINGAPORE--Japan's February zinc production fell 19.3% on month to 45,819 metric tons, according to preliminary data released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Friday.
On year, output at Japanese zinc smelters was down 3.1%, the data showed.
Zinc inventories in Japan fell 8.3% on month to 24,755 tons, and were down 29.5% from a year earlier.
Japan's zinc shipments in February declined 13.5% on month to 17,181 tons, but were 7.6% higher from a year ago.
Friday, the London Metal Exchange three-month zinc futures contract was last quoted at $3,265 per ton, up $15 from the London Thursday afternoon kerb.
