HYDERABAD: Not withstanding the objections from tribals and locals in Vizianagaram, the state cabinet on Wednesday decided to allot 1,048 acres of to Jindal aluminium project in S Kota mandal in the district. The tribals have been protesting that the project would displace them and spoil the ecosystem.
Information minister A Ramnarayan Reddy said that 181.98 acres of dry land and 866.67 acres of assigned land has been allotted to the company. It would cost the company Rs 2 lakh per acre for dry land and Rs 2.25 lakh per acre for wet land. In case of assigned lands, the assignee would get Rs 1 lakh per acre and an additional land value of Rs 75,000 would be credited to the government.
The minister said that the cabinet had approved the best resettlement package for the evacuees. It includes 600 jobs for eligible family members and those who do not want jobs would be given Rs 3 lakh per family. They would also get a house from the company on 45 sq mt of floor area with all the infrastrucutre.
If the displaced family wants to settle outside their own land by constructing a house, they would be given a one-time cash payment of Rs 1.5 lakh and transportation cost of Rs 5,000. A special incentive for timely vacation of land would get them another Rs 1,500 per month for one-and-a-half years. The company would total the quantum of the entire benefit and allocate shares equivalent to it in the company to the displaced families as bonus, the minister said.
