Alba registered a new profit record last year as it succeeded in increasing its aluminium sales to 883,247 metric tonnes, marking an increase of 204,067 tonnes over the previous year, said a report in our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej. "Last year's sales included significant increases in value-added sales," said Alba's annual report for last year. "Billets sales reached 339.473mt, whereas ingots sales soared to 178.648mt. "The sales of hot metal, pumped into local markets, have gone up to 173.057mt." The record surge in sales came as a result of selling more than 100,000 tonnes of stored aluminium. Simultaneously Alba exceeded its target of 851,271mt. The report also shed light on the opening of the company's first calibration laboratory. The operation of this laboratory has improved the efficiency of Alba's smelters to match international standards. Alba chairman Essam Fakhro said the company had managed to complete seven million man hours without a single lost time injury last year. Moreover, the company's consideration for the environment has earned it the environmental awareness award from the GCC humanitarian and environmental affairs sector for the best environmental activities for 2005 and last year.
