OSLO - Oil and gas to aluminium producer Norsk Hydro ASA said on Friday that it had sold its automotive plant in the city of Worcester to local UK-based and privately owned Holden Lightweight Ltd.

Hydro said the divestment was part of the restructuring of its aluminium unit.

Hydro announced earlier in the year that it has sold its oil and gas interests to Statoil, in a deal which will take effect in the third quarter of this year.

After that deal is completed Hydro will be an aluminium producer.

Hydro said in a statement that its Worcester unit, which has about 130 employees, was one of the world's leading companies in the design and production of lightweight bonded aluminium frames for automobiles.

The company has delivered frames to customers including Aston Martin, BMW and Jaguar.

'We have given no sale price number because the operation is a small one, the buyer is a private company and the impact of the transaction will not be significant,' said Hydro spokesman Thomas Knutzen.
