US-listed aluminium producer Vimetco will work with Rumania agriculture complex Interagro in a 1,000MW coal-fired power plant with each holds half of the stake. The site of the project, nearby Danube, is 90 kms away from Vimetco’s Slatina smelter, which is a major electricity customer. “The joint venture marks Vimetco’s entry into Romanian power markets and will secure power supply for Slatina. We’re confident in launching construction of the project this year and guaranteeing supply in 2012.”said Christian Wuest, chief executive officer of the company. Vimetco is currently expanding the Slatina smelter projecting an annual capacity of 460,000 tons from 215,000t, which is planned to be completed in 2010. Vimetco also has smelters and power plants in China with capacity totals approximately 680,000 tons and 1,000 MW. COPYRIGHT All rights reserved.
