Jamaica’s Alpart alumina refinery recently put on a dispute over labor deal. Alpart is a joint venture between Russia’s UC RUSAL and Norway’s Hydro with an annual capacity of 1.65 million tons, the union on behalf of the refinery’s workers has rejected Alpart’s latest offer of a fresh contract. Talks are currently planned, which has been accepted by the union after a strike threat. Meanwhile, dispute at the St Anns Bauxite hasn’t been settled. The joint venture is integrated with American Gramercy alumina refinery and is co-owned by Century Aluminum and Noranda Aluminum. Last week workers at the bauxite staged a two day “sick-out” (calling in sick for two days), and more talks are scheduled for this week. COPYRIGHT All rights reserved.
