Venezuela’s Bauxilum is projecting to produce 1.7 million tons of alumina in 2008, said the company’s chief operating officer Juan Sala. “we have performed two technical outage for regular maintenance work, it is expected we will produce 1.8 million of alumina in 2009.” The company previously set a production goal at 1.9 million tons for 2008. Juan Sala said the company hopes to promote production both in technique and output by the year of 2010 to achieve its goal of 2 million tons a year. Although the company produced 1.7 million tons of alumina, Sala said the new production target was due to upgrade in production plan this year. “as we cannot achieve the prior settled target, it is unrealistic.” Bauxilum owns Los Pijiguaos bauxite mine in Bolivia as well as an alumina refinery in Puerto Ordaz. Venezuela’s heavy industry holding company CVG enjoys a 99% stake in Bauxilum, with remained by Switzerland’s Alusuisse Lonza Holding Group. COPYRIGHT All rights reserved.
