Norwegian aluminum producer Norsk Hydro has signed a letter of intent with SolarDuck, TNB Renewables Sdn Bhd, and TNB Research Sdn Bhd to cooperate on a project that is to improve offshore floating solar energy solutions in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Under the collaboration, Hydro will produce aluminum components used for the 780 kW SolarDuck offshore floating solar plant located off the coast of Malaysia’s Tioman Island. The project was scheduled to be completed in 2025.
Southeast Asia lacks wind energy and usable land, projects seeking to obtain renewable energy offshore and by using solar power will be a good development. Offshore floating solar solutions are likely to become the most affordable marine energy technology by 2030, said Koen Burgers, CEO of SolarDuck.
