Railway in Russia: RUSAL, SUAL Aluminum Shipments by Rail in Q3 2006

SUAL, Russia's second biggest producer, shipped 524,400 tonnes of aluminum by rail in the nine months, down 0.1% from 524,700 tonnes in the same period of last year. Export shipments fell 0.5% to 476,100 tonnes while domestic shipments rose 4.9% to 48,300 tonnes.

RUSAL reduced rail shipments of alumina 4.1% year-on-year in the nine months to 3.685 million tonnes. Internal shipments fell 16.1% to 557,200 tonnes and imports were down 1.6% to 3.128 million tonnes. SUAL shipped 942,700 tonnes of alumina to its smelters by rail in the nine months, up 5.4% year-on-year. Domestic shipments rose 4.7% to 915,100 tonnes and import shipments soared 34.9% to 27,600 tonnes.
