United Company RUSAL, one of the biggest aluminium producers in the world is now seeking to develop a power-metallurgy complex in Vietnam, Evgeny Volosov, chief representative told media
UC RUSAL sees great potentials in developing new energy sources and metallurgy projects by tapping and exploiting Vietnam's diversified mineral sources, particularly bauxite ores, Evgeny Volosov noted
Russian aluminium maker is willing to share its experience and management professional skills and help boost Vietnam's metallurgy industry with training human resources, he said
Once operational, the complex will help satisfy the country's demand for aluminium and other markets, he added, but did not disclose the total investment
Previously, Artem Volunets chief executive officer of the company said during the talks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi that UC RUSAL wants to set up alliance with Vietnam's groups including Vinacomin for giant projects not only in the aluminium production but also in infrastructure development such as seaport and railways in Vietnam
UC RUSAL opened a representative office in March of this year in Vietnam
UC RUSAL, which has opened rep offices in 17 countries with staff of 100,000 people, is operating 15 aluminium factories worldwide, accounting for 12.5%-16% of global aluminium output. RUSAL shipped its products to 70 countries
According to initial statistics by the Ministry of Industry, Vietnam's bauxite ore reserves are estimated at over eight billion tons – the raw material used in alumina production, a white powder for producing aluminium – ranking fourth worldwide behind Australia, Guinea and Brazil. Of the total, the Central Highlands has an estimated 7.9 billion tons, while the northern mountainous provinces of Cao Bang and Lang Son count some 120 million tons
