UC RUSAL signs up to another greenfield smelter project in Russia

Russian aluminium giant UC RUSAL has signed a memorandum of understanding on an integrated energy/aluminium complex with the local government of Sakhalin, according to Russian media reports. The proposed smelter with a capacity of 750,000tpy would be predicated on a 2300MW power plant using coal from the Solntsevskiy coal mine. UC RUSAL has signed several such MoUs with regional authorities around Russia as it tries to identify the best location for its integrated power-aluminium investment programme.
