UC Rusal Produced 1,100,000t of Aluminium In Q1

United Company Rusal, the largest aluminium producer in the world, announced yesterday that it produced 1,100,000 tons of aluminium in the first quarter this year, up 9.4% on year.
Full operation of Khakassia smelter is the major driver of the growth, as well as other projects such as the completion of ALSCON smelter in Nigeria, operations of electrolytic cells in Irkutsk smelter and other upgrading programmes, said the company in a statement.
Rusal produced 2,800,000 tons of alumina in the quarter, up 3.5% on year; bauxite at 4,500,000 tons, representing a 13.1% growth in comparation with the last period.
Annual production capacity of Mykolayiv alumina refinery in Ukraine has lifted to 1,700,000 tons through modernization. And upgrading of Achinsk refinery in Siberia and steady bauxite output in Fria refinery in Guinea contribute the increase.
Chief executive officer Alexander Bulygin said in the statement that “all productions’volume takes on a steady ascend”.
Rusal’s investing totaled $457 million in the first quarter with around $235m over expansion, upgrading, modernization and technology innovation. The company’s business goes into more than 70 countries in the world with 100,000 employees in 19 countries.
