Top Russian Billionaire Sill Rises, Deripaska Seizes First Title

Forbes announced the top 100 Russian billionaire list for this year with a much higher threshold that billionaires with 1 billion dollars cannot enter the list. As reported that there are 10 Russians with $1 billion assets didn’t go into the ranking among which are all giants in mining and metal sectors. Russian metals tycoon Oleg Deripaska, owner of United Company Rusal, has seized the title of Russia’s richest man from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, one of the 50th wealthiest men in the world. Deripaska, 40, the sole owner of Russia’s industrial holding Basic Element (BasEl), totals his fortune of $28.6 billion, up $11.8 billion from the previous year. Finance reported earlier that Deripaska nearly doubled his fortune in 2007 to an estimated $40 billion and that Russia’s 42-year-old Chukotka governor Abramovichwho was beaten into second place with an estimated $23 billion, and Vladimir Lisin, the owner of Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) came third with a $22.2 billion fortune.
