Norilsk Nickel rebuffs UC RUSAL's ecology complaints

RBC, 13.08.2008, Moscow--Norilsk Nickel is implementing its own ecological program, which has been developed and approved by the company, and does not believe there is a need for a feasibility study for its ecological modernization project, the Russian nickel producer said, commenting on UC RUSAL's (holder of 25 percent plus two shares in Norilsk Nickel) open letter in relation to the environmental situation at enterprises part of the precious metals group. Norilsk Nickel plans to spend over RUB 36bn (approx. USD 1.48bn) on environmental protection measures from 2007 to 2015. The company also accused UC RUSAL of knowingly or unknowingly using untrue statistical data and facts in an attempt to present information from a certain perspective, which confused those not very familiar with the situation.
