Novelis Inc. announced today that Leslie W. Joyce has been appointed Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer, effective immediately.  She will be confirmed as an executive officer of the company at the next Novelis Board of Directors meeting.

"One of my goals is to make Novelis the best employer in our industry," said Phil Martens, President and Chief Executive Officer, Novelis. "Leslie's appointment is further proof of our commitment to our comprehensive global human resources strategy to strengthen our position as the world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling. She has been instrumental in helping us become a leader in talent development during a time of rapid growth."

Leslie joined Novelis in September 2009, as Vice President, Global Talent Management and established world-class processes for talent acquisition, development and deployment.  With this appointment, Leslie will now lead the global Human Resources function to include the regional and functional HR organizations, Compensation, Benefits, HRIS and Global Security.  She will be responsible for the development of global programs and processes to support not only leadership development, but also performance management, recruitment and selection, succession planning and organizational effectiveness.

With a doctorate in Industrial Psychology from North Carolina State University, Leslie brings more than 25 years of expertise in human resources with Fortune 500 companies including The Home Depot where she was the vice president and chief learning officer.  In that role, she was responsible for all aspects of delivering learning solutions which included the design, development, deployment and evaluation of all technical, professional and leadership development solutions.  Prior to joining The Home Depot, Leslie held positions of increasing responsibility with GlaxoSmithKline, a leading global pharmaceutical company.

Leslie is succeeding Eric Drummond who has decided to leave Novelis to pursue another opportunity.  "In his time with Novelis, Eric has successfully grown and transformed the Human Resources team into a critical part of our business and a strategic partner to its leadership. Under his guidance, great progress has been made in our ability to take a global view on HR," said Martens.
