Six months after acquiring Anglo-Dutch steel giant Corus, Tata Steel has put the company’s remaining aluminium business on the sales block, according to Indian news reports.

Corus sold its downstream aluminium processing activities to US fabricator Aleris last year but kept its two smelters—one in the Netherlands and one in Germany—with long-term supply contracts to the downstream operations.

The company has made no secret of its concerns about the impact of rising power costs on its Dutch smelter—the 110,000tpy Delfzijl plant—in particular.

A Corus spokesperson was quoted as saying the company continues to evaluate all the available options for its aluminium business, including a potential sale.
