…Rio’s aluminium production up 5% in Q2

Rio Tinto said attributable group production from its four aluminium smelters was 216,500t in Q2 07, up from 211,700t in Q1 and up 5% from output of 206,600t in the year-earlier period. Bell Bay and Boyne Island in Australia and Anglesey in the UK all saw incremental year-on-year rises but the big improvement came at the company’s 79.4%-owned Tiwai Point plant in New Zealand. Here production rose by 10% to 88,200t reflecting the curtailment of some capacity in the year-earlier period due to power rationing.
