Rio Tinto closes in on Alcan

Miner Rio Tinto has jumped another hurdle in its takeover offer for Canadian aluminium producer Alcan. The company says Canada's Industry Minister Jim Prentice has given the acquisition the go-ahead. The miner has won most of the regulatory approvals it requires for the $44 billion takeover.
