Rio Tinto Alcan Boosts Q1 Alumina Production 10% on Year

Rio Tinto Alcan set a year-on-year growth of 10% in alumina production for up to 2,220,000 tonnes in the first quarter this year from 2,017,000 tonnes in the same period last year, which are on an estimated basis, including production before its acquisition by Rio Tinto in October 2007, said the company. Rio Tinto Alcan estimates a boost of the group’s production in alumina by 236%. It also said that Yarwun refinery in Australia has been operating at the rated capacity of 1,400,000tpy during the first quarter, with production at 348,000 tonnes, up 17% from the same period a year ago.
