Hundreds of engineering jobs in Anglesey look set to be saved at a metal company threatened with closure. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Welsh Assembly Government and the Department of Energy have put together a deal to rescue Anglesey Aluminium, the Daily Post reports. Local MP Albert Owen said that a "substantial" deal had been put in place, which is good news for the 540 people employed at the firm. Included in the offer is financial support for Anglesey Aluminium's intention to build a new biomass plant at a site in Holyhead. Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Owen said that a task force had been established in order to formulate a deal. "We are determined to fight to retain as many jobs as possible," he said. The company recently revealed plans to construct two large wood burning furnaces, a development that would be responsible for the creation of an additional 100 engineering jobs. Anglesey Aluminium began operating in 1971. The company's output stood at 144,000 tonnes in 2006.
