MONTEREY, Calif. -- Century Aluminum Co. said Wednesday it selected Wayne Hale to succeed Jack Gates as executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective March 1.
Gates is retiring after six years with Century. He will remain at the company through the first half of 2007 to help with the transition.
Hale was senior vice president for Moscow-based Sual-Holding. He was responsible for the mining, refining, smelting, logistics, procurement, health and safety, and the sales divisions.
Shares of Century dropped 17 cents to $44.69 in morning trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
