PARIS - The trade unions of Alcan and Alcoa said they intend to mobilize around July 10, the date when the takeover offer by Alcoa for Alcan ends, to alert employees to the risks of the tender offer.
The trade unions will carry out action in different countries "to make the employees aware of the stakes and the risks of this tender offer", said the European Federation of Metal Workers (FEM), which will coordinate their action.
In an official statement, the FEM said it wants guarantees for the future of workers and wishes to challenge the European authorities on the stakes of such an operation for employment and European industry.
Alcan has rejected a hostile bid made by US aluminium producer Alcoa on May 7, calling the 33 bln usd offer "inadequate", while saying that it remained open to improved offers.
