Alcoa Pays Environment Compensation Fee for its Juruti Bauxite Mine Project

Alcoa Brazil filial paid 15 million dollars environmental compensation fee to support its bauxite mine project Juruti. Director of Alcoa Bricio de Lima said Juruti mine project has invested about 1.8 billion Reais, among them, environmental compensation fee takes up 1.57%, higher more than the 0.5% lowest compensation rate according to federal law. However, Alcoa is satisfy with the compensation agreement by Para Environmental Bureau and Sema. This project will initial in next August, its bauxite production capacity will reach 2.6 million metric ton then. It was opposed by environmentalists early this year. Its products will transport to Brazil Alumar alumina refinery, which located in Sao Luis, Maranhao, Brazil, take charged by Alcoa and BHP Billiton.
