China facing surplus aluminium capacity

Reuters cited Mr Xiong Weiping chairman of China's top aluminium firm Chalco as saying that China currently has 20% to 30% excess production capacity of both primary aluminium and alumina. Mr Xiong said that the surplus would not last forever but its duration would depend on the pace of economic growth. He said that Chalco's parent firm, state owned metals conglomerate Chinalco would continue unswervingly on its strategy of becoming an international multi metals firm. (Sourced from Reuters)
