.ALCOA has partnered with Exal to create an aluminium container for promoting a newly developed water purification technology. With Alcoa’s aluminium, Exal used its Coil-To-Can (C2C) aluminium container technology to create a promotional bottle for Project Eviive. At the G-20 Summit, Project Eviive will use the aluminium bottle to help unveil a system that it believes will alleviate the world’s growing fresh water crisis. The water purification technology, developed by Epiphany Solar Water Systems, utilizes solar energy to distil unclean water in a way that is said to be simple, inexpensive, and sustainable. Exal’s C2C technology has a lower impact on the environment and a high degree of sustainability. A hybridised technology, it combines the manufacturing speed and light weight of standard beverage cans with the dynamic shaping technology traditionally used with heavier walled extruded aluminium containers. Because of their lighter weight, aluminium containers made via C2C use less fossil fuel throughout the logistics chain, producing fewer transport-related carbon dioxide emissions than heavier packaging formats. Exal’s C2C process also utilizes post-consumer recycled aluminium as a raw material and finished C2C containers are infinitely recyclable.
