Auto wiring manufacturers Leoni, Kromberg & Schubert, and SEWS have taken over three local plants from Alcoa, which gave up an over 30 million-euro business with almost 5,000 employees in 2008.
Alcoa, which started its production operations in 2001 by building a plant in Nadab, Arad county, sold its wire harness business in an international transaction to American investment fund Platinum Equity only a few months after it had announced it was planning to transfer component production from a Czech plant that was about to close to the Romanian facilities.
The division sold to Platinum Equity had operations in 13 countries and 17,500 employees.
Platinum Equity, which holds companies in the industrial, logistics, IT, telecom, media, and real estate sectors, then sold the plants in Nadab (Arad), Caransebes (Caras Severin), and Beius (Bihor) to three major players in the wiring sector, in recently completed transactions.
