Alcoa, one of the world’s largest producers of aluminum-based products, wants you to know you can now use your iPhone as a “fun and easy way” to help you recycle all of those soda cans you’ve been accumulating. Its new free iPhone app, called Aluminate, offers several different features to make the chore of can recycling perhaps a little more entertaining.

The Aluminate app lets you, according to Alcoa, keep track of individual and team recycling efforts; calculate the cash one can earn based on the amount of aluminum cans (used beverage, food and pet food cans) recycled; locate a recycling center; share results with others on Facebook or by email; and watch videos and read fun facts about how recycling aluminum is a good thing for our planet.

Alcoa and the Aluminum Association said they have a goal of increasing the recycling rate of aluminum cans in the U.S. to 75% by the year 2015. According to a company official, if every American recycled just one more can per week, that goal could be reached.
