Alcoa Architectural Products is now launching its latest product, the Reynobond Reynolux with EcoClean, which is an aluminum cladding panel having the capacity to both self-clean and clean the surrounding air.
This is how the EcoClean coating works:
Thus the aluminum cladding for the first time not only actively enhances sustainability but is also economic and environmentally -friendly. With the help of moisture and the sun, the coating, which is based on titanium dioxide makes the smog and the dirt particles harmless. Guy Scheidecker, who is the Marketing and Distribution Manager for Alcoa states that this self-cleaning ability contributes a lot towards the reduction of costs in a building.
The complex manufacturing process affects the overall price of the cladding in only a minimal way and it does not include any costs for installation or time for processing. The cladding device could disperse smog equivalent to 80 trees or the daily emissions of four cars. The light sensitive titanium dioxide under the influence of sunlight acts as a catalyst even in low humidity conditions. The electrons, which are freed by the UV light form radicals later break down the smog particles and organic substances. Simultaneously, a smooth and super hydrophilic surface is formed. The substances that were broken down would simply slide off the building and leave a clean frontage.
