The Sugar Land and Freeport Plants received several SH&E awards at the Texas Chemical Council’s (TCC) Awards Banquet in Galveston, Texas.

The Sugar Land Plant received the TCC’s esteemed "Sustained Excellence in Caring for Texas" award for having, in the past 3-year rolling period, received the “Excellence in Caring for Texas” award (at least once) and maintained a score of 90 or above during a written application evaluation process. Award winners are judged on the application quality and the written answers to questions relating to performance in community awareness/involvement, emergency response, security, and pollution prevention. It is important to note that only four “Excellence in Caring for Texas” awards are given each year, based on plant size categories established by the TCC (1-60, 61-200, 201-500, 501+ employees).

“It’s a tremendous achievement to receive recognition once, but even more special to be recognized for sustained excellence. This award is a direct result of the efforts of all the Sugar Land plant employees over the past several years,” said Don Comer, Sugar Land Plant Manager.

The Sugar Land Plant received the Excellence in Caring for Texas awards for 2009 and 2008 in the "61 - 200 employees" category. For 2010, the plant was the only facility in its category to receive the Sustained Excellence in Caring for Texas award.

Likewise, the Freeport Plant collected four distinguished TCC awards. First, the plant received the “2010 Caring for Texas” award for demonstrating commitment to their employees, the community and for continued improvement in community awareness, emergency response, security, and pollution prevention. Additionally, the plant obtained a “Distinguished Service” award for, among many qualifiers, having a representative attend at least 50 percent or more TCC Occupational Safety Committee’s quarterly meetings and improving their 2010 injury/illness incident rate when compared to the previous three-year average. Lastly, awards for “Zero Incident Rate” and “Zero Contractor Incident Rate” were received for no employee or contractor recordable injuries in 2010 and having demonstrated a commitment to safe operations. The plant also received the Distinguished Service and Zero Incident Rate awards for 2009.

“We appreciate the recognition from the TCC, as it is a direct reflection of our employee’s hard work and dedication in 2010,” added Joe Bludau, Freeport Plant Manager.
