Rio Tinto Alcan will transfer 75 per cent of its local property to the City of Beauharnois. The transfer will allow for the creation of a new industrial park for the Beauharnois community, thus fostering further economic diversification.
"Over the past few years, we have worked diligently with the community to identify various means by which our industrial facilities in Beauharnois could be repurposed for the future," said Guy Authier, vice president, Quebec South and Joint Ventures, Rio Tinto Alcan. "The presence of a dedicated resource from our Regional Economic Development Office is part of this strategy and will continue to help the community diversify its economic base by studying new industrial opportunities for local businesses."
With the official signing of the agreement between Rio Tinto Alcan and the City of Beauharnois, Rio Tinto Alcan is supporting the socioeconomic development of the region and hopes the agreement will lead to new developments for the site over the coming years.
The land and buildings being transferred have been decontaminated according to the site rehabilitation plan approved by the Ministère du développement durable de l'environnement et des parcs and are compliant with Rio Tinto Alcan's rigorous site transfer standards.
