Rio Tinto intends to suspend production at Straumsvík aluminum smelter

   Rio Tinto, a leading global mining group in Australia, considered suspending the production at its Straumsvík aluminum smelter in Southwest Iceland for two years.

  This aluminum smelter has been operating suffering losses for eight years. The losses even reached ISK 13 billion in 2019, especially the high power costs which have given great pressure to the firm.
